Review Data presentation and Discussion of The Journal (part 3)
Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog 😆
Today I would like to continue the journal review, the title is The Use of Songs in Teaching Students’
Listening Ability. In this part, I would like to review about the Data
Presentation and Discussion part.
Please enjoy ~
v
Data presentation
Considering the obtained value of t (tobt =
6.542) is higher than the value of t critical (tcrit = 2.021). Thus the null
hypothesis was rejected and the use of songs as the media of teaching listening
is likely improve the students’ listening ability. This finding supports the
research hypothesis that the use of song is effective in improving students’
listening ability. Hence, it can be concluded that result the pre-test and
posttest scores of experimental are different and there was an improvement in
the students’ listening ability.
v
Discussion
In this discussion part, the researcher will give
the explanation about the value from the data. The researcher finds about the
difficulties faced by the students toward songs as a media that takes the data
from the questionnaire. The students said that listening comprehension is
difficult. From 33 students, most of them agreed that listening comprehension
is difficult. It is not how is the way teacher explain to the students but
because the situation in the classroom. Listening comprehension is held in the
classroom and the situation in the classroom is too noisy. So, the difficulties
faced by the students is dealing with the noisy classroom. In this research,
the treatment is given to the experimental group in an ordinary class. As the
result, the noises from another class disrupt the classroom activities. It can
be a challenge for the teacher to find the way to overcome the situation. Using
the language laboratory is necessary when the teacher wants to use songs as a
media of teaching listening.
Another data from the questionnaire is about
the fast songs that faced by the students. The teacher’s creativity to develop
the material (song) is needed. The teacher may follow the principles criteria
when they choose song as media of teaching listening. As it stated by Coromina,
(2000) and Lynch, (2005), songs must have clear and understandable lyric. The
teacher has to choose the songs with understandable lyric and the slow rhythm so
that the students can follow the material from the songs that they hear easily.
In addition, different accent from the singer also becomes the difficulties
that faced by the students in listening comprehension using songs.
For that reason, the teacher absolutely has to
select the appropriate songs which can help the students to learn the language
and improve their listening ability. The songs should be understandable and not
too fast. Besides, the situation also will influence their concentration in
listening comprehension so that the teacher has to find the way to teach
listening in quite place such as in the language laboratory. the last, the
researcher believed that replaying the songs could overcome the difficulties.
To be
