welcome back to my blog J how have you been? I hope you all are fine J
Today I want to
tell you about my review from the book that I have read. But, before I started,
I would like to tell you that I change my book before to this book. Because I think
that I find this book is interesting to read and can give me and also for all
of you motivation to do all your best in your life. Okay, do you want to know
what book that I will give review. Let’s get started !
Title : The Power of Positive Thinking
Writer : Norman Vincent Peale
Genre : Motivation
Pages : 286 pages
Year published : 1956 (first edition)
Chapter
1 : BELIEVE IN YOURSELF !
This chapter will talk about
believe in yourself. Peale said that have a faith in your abilities without a
humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or
happy. But with yourself confidence you can succeed. There are many problems in
this chapter, and all of those are about self-confidence. For all of you who
don’t have a self-confidence, you have to know that Peale gives ten rules to
fill your faith, confidence and security. The rules include the following:
1. Picture yourself as succeeding.
2. Think a positive thought to drown out a negative thought
3. Minimize obstacles.
4. Do not attempt to copy others.
5. Repeat “If God be for us, who can be against us?” ten times
every day.
6. Work with a counselor.
7. Repeat “I can do all things through Christ which
strengtheneth me” ten times every day.
8. Develop a strong self-respect.
9. Affirm that you are in God's hands, and
10. Believe that you receive power from God.
Chapter
2 : A PEACEFUL MIND GENERATES POWER
The next chapter describes the
importance of creating a peaceful mind, which can be done through inspirational
reading, clearing one's mind, or visualization. There are two cryptic phrase for
you “an ear full of trouble” and “a mind full of peace” what do you choose? A primary
method for gaining a mind full of peace is to practice emptying the mind. This will
be emphasized in another chapter, but I mention it here to underscore the
importance of the frequent mental catharsis. I recommended a mind-emptying at
least twice a day, more often if necessary.
Peale continues with how to obtain
consistent energy, saying that “God is the source of all energy”. The mind
controls how the body feels; thus, letting go of negative energy and emotions
will give infinite energy through God. Next, Peale speaks of the healing power
of prayer, and how it will heal physical and emotional problems that arise from
negative circumstances.
Chapter 3 : HOW tO
HAVE CONSTANT ENERGY
In this chapter Peale talks
about how God is the source of all energy. He tells us here that if one is
constantly mentally connected with God than one will have more energy to go
about their business. Here we learn, too, that if we maintain a good balance in
the areas of our physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing these three
aspects of ourselves will work together in harmony.
In this chapter, it is stated that fear, resentment, obsession, etc. is what breaks our connection with infinite energy. However, if we relax we can more easily remain connected with infinite energy. if one is enthusiastic about something they tend to have more energy because they are doing what they are passionate about. We are told that if our life is dull we will be tired and in some cases may even become sick.
Peale writes that if you are to achieve greater energy in your life than you will have to correct your emotional faults. He says that people who lack energy are usually disorganized to one degree or another because of their psychological conflicts. Also hate will certainly block energy should you choose to harbor it. Not only can negative emotions, like fear and guilt, sap energy in general, but can also rob someone of restful sleep. This in turn will contribute to having less energy until the source of these negative emotions is discovered and dealt with.
